I posted this on facebook in LSC general already. Our dear Zar-Unity said he liked me to post it here as well, so I am doing this: *Music Solitaire fun I invented* Fun game for 1 bored and VERY OPEN MINDED (and probably tough) music nerd! I just have to share this. This game can take from 5 Minutes to forever. ^^ 1. Go to this map: everynoise.com/engenremap.html 2. Close your eyes and keep moving your cursor left and right/up and down until you do not know where you are at anymore. 3. Open your eyes and look at which Genre you are, then open this Genres' artist list. 4. Do as in step 2 and then open your eyes and look at which band/artist(s) you are. 5. Go to Spotify/youtube etc. and listen to at least one whole (random) song by this artist. No cheating! You have to listen to a whole song by them. If you like them, of course, you can listen to more. Listen to what you get and don't turn it off, at least one song! GOOD LUCK in finding good music you like! I hope someone else here likes this. NEW RULE FOR THIS FORUM:
Post the artists you got while doing this here. You do not have to write a lot about it. Just: I landed on ARTIST/GENRE and how you liked it. If you really liked it a lot you can post a song example of them, too.

So far I landed on: 1. Comets On Fire / Genre: Experimental Rock. Pretty good. I listened to their whole discography! Though I only really liked their last album called "Avatar". I did not really get what's "experimental" about this rock though, it was good Stoner/Blues/Psychedelic Rock imho. 2. Dreissk / Genre: Abstract IDM. Nice, though boring after some time. Listened to nearly the whole discography until at one point I felt it become monotonous too much. I still do not know what IDM stands for. " I'm Dreaming, Man" I can relate to what they mean with "abstract", because it sounds like listening to a landscape in a dream. Oh my gosh, people are gonna think I am doing LSD again...but I would not know how else to explain it, if a landscape in a dream was a sound it would be the music Dreissk make. Edit: I just landed on 3. Tundra Lights / Genre: Instrumental Post Rock Oh boy. Seems I am a magnet for dreamy, slow, abstract, atmospheric music at the moment. But this time it was more boring than interesting. Repetitive, no highlights. Seriously I listened to one whole album and a couple of songs, and I had to turn this off so I would not fall asleep. Bad luck today. Edit, part 2. Yes, back again. If you think I'm a fanatic, my boss plays Tetris every day since 1990 or something, more than I do this here! But yes, I'm a fanatic when it comes to music, that's why I'm here. I got 4. Alexandre Tharaud / Genre: Classical Piano it's becoming a bit spooky. Is my PC run by ghosts who know my music taste? So far I did not get anything mindblowing but I also did not get anything really annoying. I even wish to get something really bad and annoying just to see...if there is anything annoying to me on a page that has 1000 music genres on it??? I really enjoyed this, though mh, this was nothing new to me. The guy plays classics like Debussy and Ravel and he plays them well on his piano. And by now everyone here knows I love the piano.

Genre: Drill and Base Artist - Song : Ladyscraper - Werewolf Syndrome Destroyed Your Family Thoughts: This is a genre I'd never heard of before. The complete electronic chaos makes this almost unbearable for listening. I'm afraid this is a complete turn-off and I'll just save the thought that I managed to sit this through until the very last second.

Genre: Classical Guitar Artist: Craig Ogden Track: Cavatina (Simply chosen because it was the number 1 track for this artist on Spotify with 1.15M plays)
Funny that I somehow randomly landed on this. I don't listen to much of the Genre but I do really enjoy it when I am in the mood for some peaceful reflection (possibly reading a book with a glass of cabernet sauvignon). Talented musician and I enjoyed our initial introduction.
I like this game, probably because I enjoy trying out new experiences and this forces you randomly experience something that you may never even had any clue that it existed in the world.

Cool you enjoyed it, noden...and sorry to Jd for bad luck.
I still did this once on Saturday and this page must be in love with me,
THE WAKE / Genre: GOTHIC ROCK. Rather Post Punk though if you ask me! Not bad, (the game was merciful to my ears again), listened to their whole "Best Of" album and a couple of more tracks. But I wouldn't say this is a must-have. It was ok, but if you like Post Punk, you can find better stuff imho. Cool though I did not know them yet. I would have known most artists in "Goth Rock" but so I landed on one I did not yet know. Thank you, game.

Genre: Desert Blues Artist: Hasso Akotey Track: Djedahi idji saman There is only one song posted on Spotify but many more on youtube. Words cannot describe how awesome this is and how much I enjoyed listening to it so I will just copy and paste the description from the last.fm artist page. "Hasso Akotey was involved in the Tuareg rebellion against Libya from the age of 12, as part of the Coordination Resistance Army. In 1994 he formed the group Tidawt ("Group" or "Together") in Agadez, Niger. These ten musicians and dancers set out to let the world know the full range of Tuareg culture, including their traditional guitar, tindé of ishumar."

Genre: Kuduro Artist: Propria Lixa Track: Sabalo and É Pra AvacalharDance dance was the first thing I felt with the exciting rhythm. Then I found that it became repetitive and boring in the long run After 2 minutes I had the urge to switch off but I tormented me through the last two minutes too.I listened to one more song É Pra Avacalhar to see if I felt the same way and indeed I did.

Genre: Deep Filthstep Artist: Nuskulfunk Track: Odessa
It was not at all what I was expecting based on the genre name, still don't understand what the "filth" part represents. I would not want to listen to a bunch of this genre but I enjoyed listening to this once. It was an interesting blend of some traditional sounds (emulated guitar and accordion I think) and a more modern/industrial beat.

Genre: Mashup Artist: Tim G Song: Missile
It was okay. Nothing that really excited me. Just some bog standard edm pop song with some trashy club beats.

Genre: Soda Pop Artist: The Vocaltones Track: Darling (You Know I love You)
Never heard the term Soda Pop in reference to music. It is really just Doo-Wop 50's music. Never heard this group before and my mom was a Bobby soxer so I listened to a lot of this style of music as a child. It was a nice nostalgic trip.

Genre: Deep Melodic Hard Rock Artist: Million Dollar Reload Track: Bullets in the Sky
Quite a bit of AC/DC influence to this band. A very solid rock band, the vocals are pretty good and they do have good harmony.

Genre: Turkish Classical Artist: Muazzez Abacı Track: Vurdun Gittin Severken
I like the language and her way of singing. In the chorus, it became a real schocker in emotions and I liked it.

Genre: traditional rock 'n roll Artist: Patricia Paay Track: Who's That Lady With My Man
Haha this didn't sound as rock n'roll at all, more like disco/pop. It sounded ok but nothing I would choose to listen again.

Genre: Funk Rock Artist: System of a Down Track: Aerials
Yes finally a very good song which I like and wanna hear again and again. But is this really funk rock!? no more like alternative rock/metal. The singer Serj Tankian has a special voice which is amazing.

Genre: Country Dawn Artist: Kacey Musgraves Track: Biscuits
You just have to love country - "Mind your own biscuits and life will be gravy" Nothing special here but it does have the country twang that appears to be a required element.

Genre: Modern country rock Artist: Shane Yellowbird Track: Bare Feet on the Blacktop
I'm not so found in modern country because I think it sounds so alike all the rest in the same genre and imo it's not so emotional even though I talk against the lovers of this music. I do like some country and bluegrass is something I really like. This song doesn't give me anything to react over.
